Norways oldest wooden home
The Årestue, Norway's oldest wooden home from the 13th century, offers a unique atmosphere. Here you can dream back to the Middle Ages and Viking times, with a panoramic view of the Telemark mountains and top modern comfort.
Årestua connects what once was with the times we live in. Here you are in the middle of a historic cultural landscape and can look out over the seven blues and the Gaustatoppen. The decor is inspired by the way the old parlors were, with the fireplace in the middle of the room and a long table with traditional chairs. The flame from the fireplace is visible throughout the room and creates a special light. It is a four-poster bed that is both beautiful to look at and a comfortable place to sleep for two. There is a new kitchen with all facilities, this is designed to take as little attention as possible.
In the modern extension building in Scandinavian design, you will find a beautiful bedroom with magnificent view. There is a bathroom and loft with extra sleeping places.
The building has been restored according to antiquarian principles in collaboration with the conservation authorities. Åre means fireplace and you can read more about the term “Årestue” here.
If you need more sleeping space, Årestua can easily be combined with Stabburet. You can read more about Stabburet here. Årestua is also great for events and meetings.
