Winter activities & skiing by Bolkesjø and Blefjell
In winter time, there are excellent skiing opportunities for both experienced skiers and beginners. The skiing tracks for cross-country skiing at Blefjell are outstanding and just a short drive from the farm.
The area is also suitable for mountain skiing and randonee. For snowboarders and slalom enthusiasts, the ski resorts Kongsberg and Gaustablikk are fantastic options, perfectly available for day tours.
Are you not a skier yet? Why not try snowshooes? After a day outside we recommend a visit to out woodfired sauna and enjoy by the fire.

Hiking at Bolkesjø
During summertime, this area is a hiker's paradise with numerous scenic trails and hidden treasures waiting to be discovered. Bolkesjø farm even boasts its very own nature reserve, known as Bjønnestille, and we provide maps to guide you during your stay. If you prefer the mountain air, Blefjell is nearby and marks the beginning of Hardangervidda. The view from Bletoppen (1,342 meters) is truly spectacular.

Hiking from Bolkesjø to Follsjø
Enjoy a scenic path from Bolkesjø to lake Follsjø, with a delightful route from Bokkeryggen down to Follsjø offering spectacular views of Follsjø and the surrounding mountains. From Follsjø, you have the option to head north or south, with alternative return routes in both directions. A pleasant bathing beach awaits at Naustet in the north, followed by a return via a forest road and path. To the south, you can take the forest road to Dalvika and then return to Bolkesjø via the main road.
The total length of the hike is approximately 6-7 km.
Hiking around lake Bokke
Around the lake Bokke, there's a marked path covering about 4 km. Parts of the tour follow forest roads, and the section from Bokkeryggen down towards the outlet can be a bit challenging. Enjoy a splendid view of the village and find excellent bathing opportunities on the rocks at the outlet of the lake.

Dusanfossen
The starting point for this popular hike is only a 5 minutes drive from the farm. The trip is approx. 3 kilometers on easy terrain, approx. 30 minutes each way. The trail is not marked, but you follow the forest road for most of the way. The last short distance is a clear path and it is easy to navigate your way by the sound of Dusanfossen waterfall. You can also follow the forest road to the top of the waterfall. It’s an excellent place for taking the perfect picture for Instagram from Telemark, and for a great, refreshing bath in the fresh mountain water. Emjoy!

Hiking tips in the area
Selsli DNT Tourist Cabin
Follow the marked tourist trail from Bolkesjø to the Tourist Association's cabin at Selsli. Begin by taking the forest road to Stulen and continue from there. The journey to Knutehytta in Kongsberg takes about a day, covering around 4 km on a forest road from Bolkesjø to Stulen and another 4 km on a trail.
Exploring Follsjø and the Timber Chute
At the southern end of Follsjø, the river Fulldøla flows towards Grønvollfoss and Tinnelva. Follow a pleasant gravel road for approximately 4 km to reach the outlet, passing bathing spots and viewpoints towards Blefjell. The final section involves a path, and to reach the log chute, you'll need to cross an old pond. In the past, timber was floated from Follsjø down the Tinnelva, and the historic log chute is still present. However, caution is advised, as moving in the chute is considered unsafe.
Hiking at Blefjell
Blefjell, an outpost to Hardangervidda, is easily accessible from Bolkesjø. While the most challenging routes start from the village, you can also drive up to one of the car parks for convenient access to the high mountain. Blefjell offers fantastic ski slopes in winter and excellent hiking conditions in the summer, along with opportunities for cycling and other outdoor activities.
Pick berries and mushroom
Mushroom season varies with the weather and can last from July through September. The forests are also abundant with blueberries, lingonberries, and even cloudberries.
