Bolkesjø Gaard may be a desolated destination for some, but for others this is the perfect place with peace and quiet. We have scenic hiking trails, lakes for fishing og swimming, historic buildings and lots to explore. Check out our sauna by lake Follsjø - here!

During summertime, hiking in the area surrounding the farm is great. There are lots of nice tracks and hidden treasures. The farm also has its own nature reserve, called Bjønnestille. We have maps that you can use while you are here. Blefjell is close by if you prefer the mountain air. This is the beginning of Hardangervidda. From Bletoppen (1 342 m) the view is spectacular.

During summertime there are sheep grazing at the farm. With regard to wildlife there are elk, deer, rabbit, fox and large birds on a common basis. Lynx are seen in the area from time to time and its also know about wolf and bear traveling through, but do not expect to see any of them.

Mushroom season depends on the weather, it may last all the way from July through September. The woods are also full of blueberries and lingonberries, and even cloudberries.

This is also a great area for fishing. There is fish in most of the lakes, both trout, char and perch. We love fishing with a net in the fall, this gives us supply of fish all through the winter. If you like ice fishing that’s also popular in this area. We have a simple boat in Follsjø, as well as various equipment that can be borrowed/rented.

For hunting season it’s also possible to make arrangements. Please let us know before you arrive if you are interested in net fishing or hunting.

In the winter time there are great opportunities for skiing, both for experienced skiers and beginners. At Blefjell the skiing tracks are excellent, only a short drive from the farm. The area is also used for mountain skiing and randonee. Skimore Kongsberg and Gaustablikk is great for snowboard and slalom.

Bolkesjø is also a good starting point for day trips to various destinations in the region. Heddal Stavkirke, Kongsberg, Bø and Rjukan is all within reach.

During summertime there is also various festivals in the area;
